Fake News: or, the Death of Real News
This is a topic that I can’t seem to shake from my head.
Every time I hear a newscaster “muse on” about how fake news has become a real problem, I can’t help but look at their flashy graphics, drama-ready theme music, and whatever gimmick-of-the-month they’ve spent big budgets on to convey trivial soundbites as Earth-ending disasterpieces. It’s sickening.
As long as news keeps trying to be entertainment while never taking a real stance on anything, the less it’ll be able to compete with actual entertainment that does. Truth or not.
Even worse is when I see these news channels take up primetime with panels of four or five people, breathing a collective sigh about how sad they are about it, instead of getting to work reporting real news. They distract too easily and gives these con-artists a free-pass to undermine journalism.
