Pledge of Allegiance
on June 14, 2019
Francis Bellamy’s original pledge in 1892 was “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
The language has been tweaked here and there to get to the version we have today, most notably the last time it was changed, 65 years ago today when “under God” was added to the text during the Red Scare.
